Have you ever eaten at Chick-fil-a? Well if the answer is no, then you don’t know what you are missing! Chick-fil-a is a nation wide chain of chicken restaurants that serve very tasty breaded and grilled chicken sandwiches. I have 2 words for you Char-Grilled Chicken Sandwich. OK so that was 4 words. Or 3? It doesn’t matter what does matter is they are very tasty. So anyways the point I am trying to make is that we ate a lot of food while working on these projects. The first job we did was a Chick-fil-a located in San Marcos California. As asphalt contractors we work on many fast food company parking lots. Chick-fil-A is one of the nicest and cleanest parking lots to work on. They really take care of there restaurants.

About the Striping Job:

We arrived at about 7 am and blocked of the job to have a safe area to work in. This project was a line & stencil painting project over the old faded striping. once the areas where blocked off we quickly set off to work. One of our men started spraying the lines while the other got on stencils. Chick-fil-a needed larger stencils in the driveways so they us gray out the old ones that where only 1 foot tall and replace them with 2 foot tall stencils. The 2′ stencils looked much better and communicated the message clearer then the old ones. Once the stenciling and lines where painted we just had to freshen up the handicaps and we where done. Even though we are a asphalt contractor parking lot striping is a services we offer. All in all the job turned out nicely and there where no problems. This week in Orange County Empire Parking Lot Services was hired to perform a small asphalt repair project. This asphalt repair job was located in Buena Park and was located between Stanton & La Mirada, and Fullerton & Cerritos. Buena Park is home to places like Knott’s Berry Farm and The Buena Park Mall. Our customer was a storage facility that required some basic asphalt repairs performed throughout their parking lot. They chose Empire-PLS as their asphalt contractors and they were very pleased with that choice.

About This Asphalt Paving Project

Our customer Public Storage asked for a price to get their damaged asphalt repaired and we provided them with a quick bid. They signed our contract and had us proceed with this pavement repair bid. The project consisted of several small asphalt repairs in there parking lot. Empire is a small yet capable company when it comes to asphalt repair this project was a perfect fit for us. Let’s face it, these days most people are going online and typing asphalt company in (insert your city here) to find contractors located in their own cities and neighborhoods. There are several reasons for that but the main seems to be that most people prefer to do business with companies close to them. In this blog I am going to tell you the top five reasons why you should do business with companies that are located in your area.  But wait a second…..next week I will reverse it and tell you the top reason why using contractors outside your area isn’t such a bad idea as well. So stay tuned in for a little bit of business insight and reasoning based on our many years of being on both sides of this issue. So the question is do you stay local or look outside of your area. Well in this blog we are going to show you the top reasons to “stay” local.

Reason 1: It’s good for your local economy:

It’s true, when you do business with local businesses, your keeping dollars in your local economy. This helps prop up your economy and support it. Remember most things in a local economy are related to each other. For example we are a paving contractor located in the city of Orange. We love working in our city and when we do we take our money and deposit it in our Orange bank. When the work day is over the guys head over to their favorite pub, also located in Orange and drink some beers. From there we head home and usually buy some gas from the …….Well you get my point. Everyone in Orange wins.

Reason 2: Local contractors are “typically” less expensive:

In most cases it’s true. If you have to move people, equipment and material 50 miles vs. 5 miles there is going to be an added cost to that. Things such as gasoline, driving time for employees and wear & tear on company vehicles do add up to additional cost to the contractor. Local contractors have to put out a smaller amount of money to get to the job and therefore should be able to outbid there out of area counterparts.

Reason 3: Local contractors are not in a rush:

When we have a job a few blocks away or even a few miles away we typically take our time on that job simply because we know that the drive home will be a short one versus a longer one like coming back from San Diego County or Ventura County. This gives us the ability to slow down on the job. This also results in better quality work.

Reason 4: Legally it’s easier to hold a local contractor to a contract:

Let’s face it, in life you are going to have disputes with contractors. Some will be legitimate changes on the job and some will be downright nasty attempts to dupe you out of your hard earned dollars. A good example is a call we received recently from an unlucky restaurant owner located here in Orange County. He told that he had just paid another asphalt company in Orange County to fix his parking lot. He paid a hefty five figure amount to the contractor and within thirty days the asphalt was already falling apart. Sadly this happens far too often. He asked us to look at the job done by the other contractor and confirm that he had been ripped off. Unfortunately he had signed a contract without reading the fine print. And often times it is amazingly fine. He got what he had paid for and our only advice to him was to hire a consultant and seek out partial reimbursement in small claims. However because this asphalt company was local the restaurant owners job to pursue a legal battle will be much easier. Remember the asphalt repair company already had his money, so he’s the one that will have to do all the leg work to get his money back. If the contractor was located all the way in Ventura County or San Diego his cost to pursue this would be far greater in both monies and time.

It’s true, when you grow up in one area such as Orange County, be it coastal, inland, or any of the unincorporated areas. You’re going to know more than outside contractors. Asphalt Contractors Pave Parking Lot To Solve Drainage Issues is a post from: Asphalt Contractors-Orange County & Los Angeles

This weekend Empire Parking Lot Services performed a project for a local Irvine California business man who needed to get his asphalt fixed before moving his business in to his new building.  He had to do a quick removal of a small section of his asphalt to accommodate some water pipe repairs so he called Empire for there asphalt contracting expertise. The plumbing contractors had removed the asphalt and based the area back in with soil and rock base. Empire was hired to perform a patch back of new asphalt to the tune of (4) inches. Though this was a small job, we took are time in doing it correctly. The ground was thoroughly compacted before any asphalt was installed to make sure there were no voids in the native soil.  Once that was complete we installed the asphalt in 2 lifts. This also insures that no voids form in the asphalt portion of the process. These voids can eventually become potholes or bird baths, so it’s best to do the job right the first time. Once the asphalt was installed we compacted it with a vibe plate for proper compaction. Lastly we iron all edges to be sure that they don’t eventually unravel. Our job went very well and the customer was very satisfied.  They got a quality job done right the first time and good price. Our customer has since called us to schedule a complete seal coat application but that is another blog.

We arrived on to our work site today around AM.  Our crews began by thoroughly cleaning the asphalt lot.  Heavy emphasis was placed on the areas that the parking lot repairs needed to be done.  Empire’s job site today was located at a crowded business so the customer needed us to get the work done quickly, securely, and quickly.  Once the parking area was cleaned up we moved on to barricading off the work areas around the parking lot.  The customer asked for us to install some skin patches today.  This was more off a cosmetic repair then a serious fix, but with the economy being rough these days there have been more of the cosmetic jobs lately than the other.  Once the work was safely barricaded we started to apply tack coat over the areas that needed repair.  Tack coat is a liquid emulsion that works like an adhesive, in that it creates a solid bond between the existing asphalt and the new asphalt material.  As quickly as the tack coat was applied, our dump truck showed up with 3 tons of hot asphalt.  We shoveled out the asphalt into the different patches, and our crew started to do their thing!  The asphalt was quickly raked, ironed, and compacted all within a few minutes.  Speed is of the utmost importance when working on a job located at a crowded business like this.
